Santosh Eco Gorkha - PREORDER

A rare coffee from a region known for trekking more than coffee production.

History
Nema Tenzing is from a family of sherpas on Sir Edmund Hillary summit. Nima Tenzing's father was the son of Mr Pasang Phutter Sherpa and built a tourism and trekking business. Tourism dried up in the area after the Maoist Revolution, a 10-year civil war from the '90s to the mid-2000s. Tenzing's family diversified and eventually ended up in coffee production. Since he became familiar with coffee culture in the US after attending university, Tenzing set out to manage the business.  In 2008, he began the Lekali Estate, which grows Caturras, Typica, and Bourbon varieties. Lekali also has its own small dry mill in Kathmandu, which allows them to oversee the full production and exporting process. Because Lekali's production is small, only about 20 40kg bags make it to the US.

Social Impact
Guided by Nima Tenzing Sherpa, the Human Practice Foundation is helping cultivate coffee to provide sustainable income streams for more people in the area. In addition to training over 700 farmers, they have installed seven nurseries and cultivated thousands of seedlings.
